For one of my "days off" it was surprisingly laid back and self-centred :) I went out in the morning (after a late lie-in) did a bit of shopping, treated myself to lunch at Frankie and Bennys with a newspaper that I actually read all the way through, then went and dropped Darling-Darling's birthday presents off at his house. Incidentally, I have thrown down the "Confetti Wars" gauntlet to him, I filled his wrapping paper with happy birthday confetti, and put a load in his card as well >:D. In the afternoon I picked up dad and we went for a walk around Avebury.

We finished up at the Red Lion (as we do) and met a very nice Bar-lady named Lyn who was a bit choked up to see us enjoying a pint and a chat, putting the world to rights. Lyn lost her father to cancer last year and really misses the things they used to do together, including the chance to just sit and chat. Dad and I bought her a drink and she joined us after her shift to do some reminiscing (sp?) which apparently left her feeling a lot better.

We got home and I made Spaghetti Carbonara for dinner, we watched "Rennaisance Man" together and then I came up here to go on my pointless trip to the Travellers Guild. Last nights 2am posts and lack of sleep were brought to you by two nightmares, one space-based with an intergalactic battle involving bouncing balls of light that vapourised anything they touched and alien warriors with beams like the tripods had in the latest version of "War of the Worlds."

The second nightmare was a lot more personal and realistic, I haven't had it in a while (since before I came home) but it started out with me lying on a chaise lounge snuggling with a faceless person (it's always been "someone" I know before, but not this time) in the summer house of a big estate. During the dream I get up and go down to a small river that runs past the summer house, there's a little hump backed bridge over it, and I walk up onto the bridge and stand looking down at the water.

I start to get a feeling of menace, and the bright summers day darkens, like a storm's coming in. I head back to the main house from the other side of the bridge, but I find myself in a thick dark forest and I'm lost. I can hear footfalls behind me and I just know that it would be very bad for whoever it is to find me, so I run. I tear through the forest, my level of terror rising as I run, and I see a huge gnarled tree over the right, one of the ones with the huge roots all snaking out of the ground. I dash towards it and wriggle down between, and under a massive pair of the roots, I push myself as far in as I can and watch with my heart in my mouth as the person I was previously snuggling with in the summer-house goes running by, scenting the air for me as he goes. I start to calm down as he disappeared into the distance, and just as I began to catch my breath, the tree started to move and sucked me down underneath it into the dirt.

I fought to breathe and I can still feel the panic as I opened my mouth and breathed in a mouthfull of loose dry earth. I woke up just as I asphyxiated. That's a variation on the theme, the dream tends to stay the same exactly (sometimes the person snuggling/chasing is different) until I am at the tree, sometimes the person finds me, sometimes it's actually an animal chasing me, sometimes there's nothing there, and sometimes the dream carries on after the tree swallows me. I do hate waking up in panic though, heart racing, unable to breathe, sometimes in tears.

My imagination does this to me, it's no wonder I don't feed it by watching scary films :)
