Today has been a very good day, late out of bed, had a lazy shower, washed my hair....and then got out in the garden and got dirty again. I have to say, that while I hate gardening (as a rule) I do enjoy growing things. I have planted up 3 baby orange trees which are currently growing on my window sill, I have trimmed my little twickel purple lavender plant and it is starting to bush nicely from the bottom, just like I hoped it would.

After the planting bits were finished I came up to my room and did some sorting out, making it fit for habitation again, got everything clean and tidy, put some washing on and then got ready for the moot. Dad and I picked Chris up about 2pm and we were there by 2:30pm, we managed to get a parking place in the Red Lion carpark and went in the back door to get some drinks and check out the location.

I'd like to start by saying that I'm sure someone-not-me would get on very well in that crowd, they were friendly, quite open, chatty and I did enjoy meeting some of them. I may very well end up going every month for the talks and discussions, but I'm afraid I won't be attending the moon circles or solstice with them.

Because I'm not a full-blown, card-carrying "wiccan" I didn't really fit in very well, they were all talking about the last full moon ritual where they "cast the circle with no words, just shamanic drumming" and I was also a little worried about them "dancing down the spirits of their animal totems" not because they're not perfectly within their rights to do so, it's just not for me. It was very nice to chat with them and they all made us feel very welcome, C & I said it would be great to meet up once a month and drink, join in discussions and listen to talks, but neither one of us would feel comfortable actually "working" with them, or certainly not until we knew them an awful lot better.

There was an element of the wannabe-wiccans, but it wasn't overwhelming and the older, more earthy types were gently educating them which was nice to see. Arthur Pendraeg didn't make an appearance, which quite disappointed Dad, but fortunatly he got over it. I got what I wanted anyway, we met a few people, made ourselves some friendly faces for next time, and assessed the type of group, so I shall be looking forward to next months now. For anyone interested, the next moot will be the 1st of July, 3pm at the Red Lion at Avebury, normally meeting in the well room.

Glad you had a good day.

I like the well room but I do know what you mean about the "mooties". A little too fluffy and cloakflapperish for me considering their location. All I can feel around Avebury is sorrow or was it just my feelings at that time of my life?

Now it's interesting you say that. I have a lot of experience of Avebury and I quite often find that the atmosphere heightens whatever I am feeling at the time, amplifies it almost. That settles it, you'll just have to visit again now you're in a very good place.... :) let me know if you want my number and I'll arrange to play hostess to you both.
