Not in the best of moods today. I got up after my night out, showered and breakfasted so I wouldn't feel like ded. I had a very pleasant drive to Maidstone, dropped off goodies and then continued on to another friend (this time a "Paul") who lives a bit further on down the M20 in Ashford. I got there to discover that he was not. So despite having planned in advance to visit, he was out. I texted him in case he was just late and got a reply to the effect that he'd forgotten I was coming and could we re-arrange for another time? Umm, Fuck that!! I just drove all that bloody way and he'd "forgotten" I was coming? So I replied in totally juvenile fashion. He has been known to do this type of thing before, but it's not such a big deal when I've only driven across Swindon to get there, not from Swindon to Ashford and back!!
I drove home again quite grumpily, but I do like driving so much it's hard to stay grumpy for long. By the time I was heading back past Maidstone again I was pretty mch ok, music on, singing like a loon and the drive home was equally pleasant. I enjoy the freedom and lack of hurry that comes with that sort of driving, no particular need to be anywhere at any particular time, so I detoured a couple of times to get off the motorway and see some of the little back villages.
I got home and realised that I'm supposed to be driving next weekend to Nunkies 90th birthday party down in a place called "West Itchenor" west-ish of Chichester. Nunkies is my dads last surviving non-sibling relative, he's my Taids brother and he's always been close with us and Erics family. They live in Middleton-on-sea and Nunkies carer Judith has arranged a trip on a boat for him, followed by a bit of a party at their house. Nunkies was a big Navy man in his yoof but had to sell his boat when he wasn't able to sail it single-handedly anymore, so he hasn't been on the water in about 30 years.
Anyway, It's a surprise party so Eggy, Nerkles and Dad are all supposed to be coming to the party and bringing assorted family members. Beth & Simon are coming and bringing the boys, Martin (my cousin, Erics youngest) and Clare are bringing their new baby Emily and it's sadly likely to be the last birthday he sees, so it's a big deal. I'm driving down with Mum and Dad so I had to make sure I sorted the levels on my car. I got the worst of the bug-guts off the paintwork, but I have to run it through the carwash before we go.
I also sat with my owners handbook for the first time since I bought the car and figured out what all the buttons do. It has some quite nifty gadgets which I am looking forward to trying out on the road.
I have a bit of a problem that I haven't worked a way around yet. AKay's 60th birthday is the 28th of July, and she's my favourite Aunt. The bcuk summer moot is over that weekend as well. It's a fairly impressive clash that needs some thinking about, especially the logistics of driving from South Wales to East Sussex and back again, if I decide to do it that way.
I think I'm going to do a post of the intricasies of our family and their associated nicknames just to keep everything straight for my altzheimer-addled days later in life. For now though a cup of tea and some supper before I settle to do some sewing, and some of the bead-work on AK's necklace and watch "Serenity."
