I have never had so much fun at a kids birthday party!!

Alex turned 5 on Saturday, I drove to Beths after work Friday and stayed the night, Beth, Si and I got the majority of the work done during the evening, party bags filled, cake finished, table decorated etc etc.

We stayed up late (geekishly) sitting in a row on the sofa drinking wine and bluetoothing each other, we watched a bit of 'Waterworld' and then when we couldn't bear it any more we watched 'Ultraviolet' which wasn't much better. Once we'd lost our will to live we went to bed. Fred and Beth both had a bad nights sleep which made the first part of Alex's birthday a bit fractious. I kept Freddie entertained while Alex opened the first shift of his birthday pressies.

Breakfasts and dressing over I took a grumpy Freddie out for a walk into town. He fell asleep just as we got to town and stayed that way for the next 2 hours. I got a few bits and then walked home, arriving just in time for the guests to start showing up.

Bobo the magic clown arrived just before 11am, got his stuff set up and then kids started arriving. We had to shunt them all out into the garden 'cos they were very excited, but Bobo (the true professional) took over and soon had 17 little darlings (and one little brat) sitting quietly watching him do magic. He kept them entertained and well-behaved for just over an hour then we stopped and had some lunch in the garden.

Bobo managed to keep everyone busy and therefore out of trouble for another hour, I got to do some magic, he had a real rabbit as part of his act, and I was glad to see it was well looked after, we played games in the garden and making balloon animals. Simons sister-in-law Lyn and I joined the kids for a massive dance-off during musical statues, and I got a balloon buttonhole for perseverance in extreme circumstance...i.e. being jumped all over by 4 little kids wilst trying to stay really, really still.

We did the cake, a homemade 'Leonardo' Turtle cake which went down very well. Alex completely loved it which was the whole point.

Kiddies started leaving soon after cake, and soon the house was quiet, at which point, the second shift of pressie opening started. He is really one very well-present-endowed little boy, the themes were Power Rangers, Turtles, Transformers, Crayola craft stuff, and even made a foray into Action Man for the first time so far.

Once everyone had gone, Beth had a well-earned sit-down while Simon and I got everything tidied up, dishwasher stacked and on and found all the little bits of plastic packaging. Alex was knackered and a bit overwhelmed, so early to bed, but he didn't stay there and we had some disobedience until Daddy went upstairs and sorted him out.

Peace reigned, and we sat down for a rest before I drove home. Got home late and then up early for more car-booting this morning. I got rid of mondo-loads of junk for Beth and raised her some money while trying not to be grumpy. Mum and dad sold a lot of their junk too, so a successful morning all round. Since then I've been working on updating forums, posting memberships and working on a very tricky puzzle train problem.

The puzzle itself didn't take too long to work out (if I've done it right) it was creating the little diagrams, doing battle with Word so it wouldn't crash before I could save it and checking I had the rules correct before deciding if my solution would work or not.

Now I am freshly showered, with a cold minty head, getting set to go to work tomorrow (boo) :o( Nothing much else going on, I didn't get the job I was going for on Weds, but on the bright side, it does mean I get to go back to Notts for (hopefully) some more interviews...

I got to meet the lovely [livejournal.com profile] swish103 for lunch last Weds and we whiled away a happy hour and a bit, chatting about everything and nothing, hugs are good and I'm hoping there will be more mini-moots, repeated at regular intervals in the future.

Apart from one or two things, life is good.
