Scary Movies
Jan. 19th, 2003 10:44 amHmm, Sundays are strange at the moment. It's 10:45, we've been up for 45 minutes, we always lie in bed first thing and discuss our strange dreams before getting up. Last night I dreamt I was a brothel prostitute and very well paid, I don't remember the details because it was followed by a much more exciting dream where I worked as a PI, investigating cheating husbands and fathers who wouldn't pay their child support.
The only reason I'm explaining is because I think I might have grown up and I'm a bit worried about it. Last night we watched Captain Blood an ok swashbuckler, Mel Brooks History of the World Pt 1 which was really funny. Then we watched Poltergeist, now I fully admit that I am a fraidy cat when it comes to scary movies of any kind, and although I did jump a few times, it wasn't very scary to my mind. In fact it must not have been scary because both dreams I remember from last night had nothing to do with Poltergeist and Charlie didn't have to wake me up from a thrashing nightmare which is practically unheard of after even a remotely scary film.
After all the things I've read and been told I was expecting terrifying, but it wasn't really, I think it's just because it's so dated, like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, they re-released it and it just wasn't very scary. TCM made me jump alot, but not the usual psychological terror I usually get from these films involving not sleeping for two days afterwards.
The point is, Charlie wants me to see The Exorcist, and the first Halloween movie which I've always said no to because I thought they'd would be too scary. But, if Poltergeist was said to be scary but actually wasn't, I figure one of two things has happened a) I have grown up and can distinguish between reality and fiction (a very disturbing possiblity) or b) they really are too dated to be that scary and I should watch them to get them over with.
So help if you don't mind, could someone who has seen all three films Poltergeist, Halloween and Exorcist, please give me a compare. I have seen all 3 Scream movies which frightened the pants off me, I spent the night after the first one in the bottom of the wardrobe clutching the phone! I have also seen Halloween H20 which wasn't as bad because there was a lot more gore, which I can handle, it's the psychological stuff that freaks me out the most.
I go through these phases where I try to de-sensitise myself to things that scare me, by going to see every scary film on and rent a few more, but it hasn't worked so far, my last attempt involved watching Scream 3 followed by Event Horizon on video when we got home.... After three nights of no sleep I said 'never again'
Thank you very much in advance.
Love Z xx
